TG Lynes has been shortlisted for three prestigious awards in the heating and ventilating industry.

We’re delighted to be shortlisted for Distributor of the Year and Net Zero Hero in the HVR Awards.

And we’re also in the running for the Net Zero Impact accolade in the H&V Awards.

Both the HVR Awards and the H&V Awards honour the best performers in the heating, ventilating and air conditioning industry.

Martin Hastings, managing director of TG Lynes, said: “We are delighted to be nominated in these two industry awards, acknowledging our continued progression and excellence in our sector.

“We are extremely proud to be one of three companies in the running for Distributor of the Year, which demonstrates our standing and reputation within the heating, ventilating and air conditioning community.

“We strive to give our customers exceptional service which enables them to carry out their jobs effectively and efficiently.

“But it is not just about trading success. The award also recognises organisations which are making a positive contribution in the local community, which is something our whole team is very passionate about.

“We are equally pleased to be shortlisted in the two net zero awards, which is in recognition of the significant work we are doing to limit the business’ environmental impact.”

The winners of the HVR Awards will be announced at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel on September 29, while TG Lynes hopes to be toasting success in the H&V Awards at the London Hilton Metropole on November 24.

Based in a purpose built 60,000 sq ft warehouse facility on Brancroft Way, TG Lynes has established itself as a favoured supplier for heating and ventilating engineers.

Guided by its four pillars - sustainability, community, integrity and quality - the business has enjoyed huge growth in recent years, with turnover accelerating significantly from 2016 to 2021.

This year TG Lynes is celebrating 110 years of supplying the trade with high quality products.

TG Lynes is proud to be driving forward one of the most progressive and forward-thinking sustainability programmes in the industry.

Carbon reducing initiatives include solar panels which produce more than 50% of the business' energy, a 90% electric or hybrid vehicle fleet and impressive recycling rates.

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

One of Walthamstow’s leading junior football clubs has received boost after netting the support of a prominent local business.

Leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier TG Lynes has backed Walthamstow FC’s Under-14s.

The youngsters will proudly wear the name of TG Lynes on their shirts for the 2022/23 season as they bid for glory in the Eastern Junior Alliance League.

Club secretary Richard Williams said: “We’re delighted to have a prestigious company on board in TG Lynes.

“Funding is extremely tough for amateur sports clubs. Any money we can bring in is a huge boost and allows us to offer first-rate football opportunities to young people in the area.

“The boys will be proud to wear the TG Lynes logo on their shirts.”

Walthamstow FC, in association with Ryan FC, has produced a string of professional footballers over the years, most notably Premier League striker Dwight Gayle.

TG Lynes, which this year celebrates its 110th anniversary, has a long history of supporting charities, sports clubs and community groups close to its Enfield headquarters.

Laura Janaway, marketing manager at TG Lynes, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Walthamstow FC’s Under-14s.

“It’s a fantastic club which provides quality grassroots sport for hundreds of young people across various age groups.

“TG Lynes is committed to operating sustainably. Of course, that means reducing our carbon footprint, but it’s also vitally important to us that we play a positive role in the local community.

“We are looking for further opportunities to support more good causes in the coming months.

“Good luck to Walthamstow FC Under-14s for the season.”

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

TG Lynes won the Wholesaler/Distributor the Year accolade at the HVR Awards.

The HVR Awards champion innovation, excellence and achievement across the heating and ventilating industry.

Managing Director Martin Hastings collected the trophy at a ceremony attended by industry leaders at Chelsea Harbour Hotel.

Martin said: “We were thrilled to win this top award at the HVR Awards, which is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of all of our team.

“We had an excellent night and it was fantastic to celebrate the achievements and successes of leaders and high-performers within the heating and ventilating industry.

“This award is particularly special as it comes during our 110th anniversary year. Much has changed during that time, but the heritage and values created by founder Thomas George Lynes live on.

“We are committed to continued growth and progression in the years to come with quality, integrity, community and sustainability at the core.”

The Wholesaler/Distributor the Year award looked at all aspects of the business including customer service, product availability, colleague satisfaction, community engagement and sustainability.

TG Lynes has established itself as a favoured supplier for heating and ventilating engineers, stocks many leading UK brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

The business has enjoyed huge growth in recent years with daily deliveries to sites across London, the South East, East Anglia and the Midlands. There are up to 23 delivery vehicles out on the road at any one time.

TG Lynes won the award after coming out on top of a public vote amongst industry peers, who were impressed by the business' stock availability, its community work in and around Enfield and its sustainability credentials, which include significant carbon reduction through solar panels and electric vehicles.

The award also covered other aspects, including how TG Lynes looks after its people through training programmes and access to mental health professionals. This is backed up by the impressive longevity of the workforce, with 27% of people in the business having served for 10 years or more – and 8% over 30 years.

Martin added: “We’d like to put on record our appreciation and thanks to all customers and suppliers, many of which have supported us in our growth over many years.”

TG Lynes was also a runner-up in the Net Zero Hero category.

Leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier TG Lynes has invested in state-of-the-art technology to warn its delivery drivers of potential hazards on the road.

TG Lynes, based in Enfield, is in the process of adding Brigade's Sidescan Predict® system to its entire fleet of HGV vehicles.

The intelligent side detection system has been developed for rigid vehicles with large blind spots.

Six ultrasonic sensors on the side of the vehicle detect objects and vulnerable road users, whether they are stationary or moving.

The technology calculates the risk of collision and alerts the driver either visually or audibly, depending on the risk.

TG Lynes plans to have the technology installed on a quarter of its distribution fleet by March next year

Andrew Ingram, General Manager at TG Lynes, said: “We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to make life easier and safer for all of our colleagues.

“It is crucial that vehicles with complex blind spots utilise technology to help reduce collisions.

“Brigade's Sidescan Predict system is one of the most technically sophisticated products available. It will offer peace of mind to our drivers and false alarms are significantly reduced, meaning they can be confident in the accuracy of the warning.”

TG Lynes has used other Brigade safety products for more than 10 years.

Used in conjunction with driver training and regular internal safety briefings, TG Lynes has managed to avoid any serious incidents with vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorbikes.

Andrew added: “Safety is a top priority for us. The protocols and safety equipment we have put in place, in conjunction with internal and external training, have enabled us to reduce near-miss incidents and has eradicated any side-swipe incidents and road traffic collisions.”

The Sidescan Predict® system remains switched on when the vehicle’s speed is below 22mph, regardless of the indicator selection, and cannot be deactivated by the driver.

Emily Hardy, Marketing Manager of Brigade Electronics UK: “Unlike existing systems, which simply register the presence of a potential obstacle, Sidescan Predict® is constantly gathering data in a vehicle’s vicinity.

“This provides additional benefits to operators by significantly reducing false alarms and increasing confidence in the accuracy of warning alerts. We are delighted to add Sidescan Predict® to our range of commercial vehicle safety systems and we are confident that it will make a positive impact to road and worksite safety and preventing fatalities.”

As well as the HGVs, TG Lynes’ fleet also includes 3.5 tonne vans and an electric bike.

TG Lynes offers a daily delivery service to sites across London, the South East, East Anglia and the Midlands, with the first vehicles on the road for 6am.

TG Lynes’ Operations Manager has celebrated 40 years at the business.

Long-serving Bob Pratt, who joined the company three days after finishing school, has completed four decades of service at the Enfield-based heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier.

Bob, 56, started out on the warehouse floor at TG Lynes’ former Kings Cross base before rising through the ranks.

Today he oversees a warehouse team of three supervisors and two sub supervisors.

Bob said: “I’m very proud to have been with TG Lynes for 40 years and to have enjoyed a full and rewarding career with the business through a period of great change and expansion.

“I finished school on the Friday and started in the warehouse on the Monday. It was only supposed to be a stopgap as I was intending on going to college to study catering, but I enjoyed it so much I decided to stay where I was.

“My weekly pay packet was £60 and I had £2.25 an hour for overtime. Everything was handwritten on stock cards and you had to have two years of experience before you could pick an order.

“Obviously things have changed dramatically and, with the arrivals of computers, it’s much easier to find the products customers need quickly and efficiently.”

Bob was promoted to work on the busy trade counter before serving as Assistant Warehouse Manager for several years.

He was later promoted to Warehouse Manager, overseeing the re-location to Enfield, before being named Operations Manager in 2008.

Bob is just one of a number of long-serving colleagues at TG Lynes, with 27 per cent of colleagues having been with the business for 10 years or more – and 8 per cent over 30 years.

These include Category Manager Alan Brett (44 years), Hire Supervisor Gerard Rene (43 years), Sales Executive Michael Brett (37 years), Sales Director Joseph Kane (36 years) and Warehouse Operative Barry Lines (33 years).

Bob said he was committed to helping new recruits learn about the rich heritage of the business.

“You rarely get so many long-servers in a business so it’s a real reflection of how the company treats its people and promotes from within,” said Bob.

“I enjoy mentoring the new recruits and explaining the ethos TG Lynes was built on and the reputation it has today.

“We are committed to excellent customer service and I want to make sure that is maintained long after I depart.”

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

Leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier TG Lynes has taken the next step on its road to net zero by introducing low carbon Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) vehicles to its fleet.

TG Lynes has started using HVO in two of its 18 tonne lorries which were running on diesel, making them 90 per cent more carbon efficient.

The business has also installed a 10,000 litre HVO tank at its Enfield base for easy on-site refuelling.

HVO is a cleaner alternative to diesel and is manufactured from 100 per cent renewable and sustainable waste, including vegetable oil, tallow and used cooking oil.

Andrew Ingram, General Manager at TG Lynes, said: “We’re delighted to have introduced HVO to these two Euro 6 vehicles in our fleet.

“HVO is much better for the environment than diesel and the projected carbon saving through the course of 2023 is more than 12.5 tonnes.

“To put that into perspective, an average car would emit the same amount of carbon were it to drive 23,000 miles – or once around the world.

“TG Lynes is committed to achieving the ultimate goal of net zero by making tangible changes across all areas of the business. This move is just one part of that pledge.”

Andrew said the business was considering rolling out HVO across its entire fleet of delivery vehicles throughout 2023, potentially saving 220 tonnes of carbon.

TG Lynes offers a daily delivery service to sites across London, the South East, East Anglia and the Midlands, with the first vehicles on the road for 6am.

As well as the HGVs, the delivery fleet also includes 3.5 tonne vans and an electric bike.

TG Lynes’ company vehicles are already 95 per cent hybrid or fully electric and the business has its own EV charge points on site.

The business also has a 110kw solar system installed on the roof of its headquarters, providing more than 50% of the energy required for operations.

Andrew added: “From fuel combustion to being sustainable when purchasing electricity and recycling to choosing ethical suppliers, we are taking decisive action to ensure we are doing everything we can to lower our impact on the environment.

“Sustainability is not just a buzz word for TG Lynes - it has authenticity.”

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

Andrew Ingram has been announced as the new Managing Director at leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier TG Lynes.

Long-serving Andrew has taken over the top job at the thriving Enfield-based business from Martin Hastings.

Andrew has been with TG Lynes for almost 20 years having started out as Transport Manager before progressing to General Manager and now MD.

He said he was thrilled to take up the new role and had a clear vision of how to keep the business moving forward.

“Becoming MD of TG Lynes has been a goal of mine in recent years so I am delighted that the board agreed with my ideas and has given me the opportunity to carry on Martin’s fantastic work,” said Andrew.

“TG Lynes offers excellent career progression opportunities and a chance to improve yourself and I am just one example of that.

“The business is in a strong position and has enjoyed seven years of year-on-year growth – but we still have big plans and goals for the years ahead.

“We have great clarity on how we continue to move forward. Our overriding aim is to make the experience as simple and as easy as possible for customers, many of whom have highly pressurised lives.”

Andrew said the business would also continue to look for new products to add to its already extensive range, while continuing to make strides in sustainability and towards net zero.

He added that the business would continue with its promise to support the local community in Enfield. Last year TG Lynes launched its inaugural Helping Hands campaign which saw more than £15,000 of product and labour awarded to three good causes in its vicinity.

Andrew said: “Our commitment to excellence and the four pillars of the business - sustainability, community, integrity and quality – will remain the same.

“We have made significant advances in sustainability and our community work in recent years and we’re keen to continue building in those areas while offering first-class, hassle-free service to customers, old and new.”

Andrew praised Martin for his achievements over six-and-a-half years at the TG Lynes helm. Martin has moved on to become CEO at Leyland SDM which, along with TG Lynes, is part of the Grafton Group.

“Martin has been fundamental in the success we have enjoyed in recent years,” he said. “He has overseen not only tremendous growth but also improvements for colleagues and I wish him all the best.”

TG Lynes stocks industry leading brands and supplies thousands of products including valves, steel and copper tubes and fittings, press systems, composite and plastic plumbing, drainage solutions and support systems and tooling. An extensive plant hire service is also available.

Two good causes in North London will receive a makeover boost after winning a share of a £15,000 community fund.

Friends of Firs Farm in Enfield and Teens Unite Fighting Cancer in Hoddesdon have been crowned champions in TG Lynes’ inaugural Helping Hands competition.

Each group will receive £7,500 worth of product from the leading heating, plumbing and air movement materials supplier to breathe fresh life into their facilities.

The winners were chosen by a team of TG Lynes judges from dozens of entries.

Hearts and Helpers Charity, an Enfield-based grassroots charity set up to support people affected by poverty, homelessness and insecure housing, has also won £1,000 worth of building materials as a runner-up prize.

Andrew Ingram, Managing Director at TG Lynes, said: “We are delighted to announce our Helping Hands winners.

“We launched Helping Hands to celebrate our 110th anniversary in 2022 and to support good causes in our area at a very difficult time.

“We thank everyone who took the time to enter the competition. There really are some amazing causes in our vicinity.

“I visited Friends of Firs Farm, Teens Unite Fighting Cancer and Hearts and Helpers Charity and was impressed by the work they are doing and their plans for the future.

“I’m looking forward to this work taking place in the weeks to come. I’m sure it will be a tremendous boost for everyone involved with all the groups.”

Friends of Firs Farm has developed a disused green area at Firs Farm Wetlands and Playing Fields into a thriving space that is enjoyed by the local community.

The volunteers are planning to create a community hub and cafe adjacent to the wetlands and the TG Lynes prize will help that dream become a reality.

Toni Guiver, Chair of Friends of Firs Farm, said: “We’re thrilled to win the Helping Hands competition. Up to 200 people a day use the Wetlands and this will be a fantastic facility for them to use and a real boost for the local community.”

Teens Unite brings together teenagers fighting cancer to help with physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

The charity has taken over The Old Police Station in Hoddesdon and is using it as a cafe and shop.

The Helping Hands funding will allow Teens Unite to improve the facility by repairing the roof and installing new toilets.

Lesley Morris, Head of Trust Income & Partnerships at Teens Unite, said: “We are incredibly grateful to TG Lynes for their support, which will make a real difference to the Old Police Station and the services we can offer.

"We are here to help teenagers and young people at a difficult time in their lives. It's great to have the backing of TG Lynes."

The two top prizes winners are hoping to carry out the improvement work in the coming weeks and months..

TG Lynes has added Billi Taps’ innovative drinking water dispensing systems to its range of products. Here Richard Blake, Channel Development Manager at Billi Taps, lifts the lid on what makes the growing brand stand out from its competitors.

Tell us a little bit about Billi Taps

Billi is a leading manufacturer and supplier of boiling, chilled, and sparkling filtered drinking water dispensing systems.

We manufacture our own products from our facility in Australia, we have total control of the quality and traceability of all our products. The brand is synonymous with innovation and quality.

Consequently, every system is rigorously and individually tested before leaving the warehouse for distribution globally.

From the design stage right through to manufacture, distribution and installation, every element of the Billi operation is monitored and measured for quality.

In addition, our substantial Research and Development department operates on the principle of continuous improvement. Due to this, the latest Quadra systems incorporate advanced eco-technology and safety features that continue to ensure that Billi leads the market.

What stands Billi Taps apart from its competitors?

In the early ’90s, the Billi Research and Development team started work. They took the concept of heat-exchange technology and applied it to a conventional water boiler, but with a significant and far-reaching difference.

The product they designed became the world’s first under-counter boiling and chilled drinking water system. The Billi engineers harnessed thermodynamic heat-exchange technology to recover waste heat energy generated by the chilled water-cooling cycle. Therefore, this enabled Billi to reuse this waste heat to preheat the water entering the hot water tank.

The energy saving is an enormous 40% in comparison to other competitor taps.

TG Lynes works with suppliers with sustainability at their core. How does Billi Taps ensure it is minimising its carbon footprint?

Every new Billi product is designed with the environment in mind to meet ecologically sustainable development guidelines. By carefully selecting each component for every unit, Billi achieves a very low carbon footprint.

Individual parts are recyclable and bear globally recognised codes. Just because an effective refreshment system is requested, it doesn’t mean it has to be costly to the environment. Rather, the two elements can be combined, as in the Billi Quadra systems.

Moreover, our technology allows you an environmentally responsible choice. We don’t compromise when it comes to filtered boiling and chilled drinking water - and now you don’t have to. Billi units consume less energy than a kettle, in addition to a far less environmental impact than that of bottled water. In the UK we have attained ISO14001 certification, in addition to the globally recognised Gold Global Green Tag certification. This means we continuously examine our systems and procedures to see how we can fine tune them further.

What’s the most exciting product in the Billi Taps range at the moment?

Offering a superior product and being known for innovation, we are continually developing new and exciting products for our customers. The Billi Quadra range with Billi’s heat exchange technology is our flagship model as it recovers and reuses this energy to preheat the boiling water, thereby making a significant cost saving. In addition, it reduces the carbon footprint.

These effective water and energy-saving initiatives help us meet the UK Green Building Council objectives. While offering unique power consumption advantages:

- Thermodynamic Heat exchange technology recovers and reuses heat energy;

- High-performance polyethylene insulation holds water temperature and saves energy.

- Stand-by mode conserves power during selected non-use periods.

How’s the relationship with TG Lynes?

Here at Billi, we strive to be the best business in our markets and to continually improve, continue to grow, and be the product choice for our customers. Working with TG Lynes as our stockist since late 2022 has been an excellent partnership and opportunity for our customers to source our Billi products from TG Lynes stock along with the other products they provide.

And finally, tell us something we wouldn’t know about Billi Taps?

Founded in Australia, the name derived from the Australian billycan which is commonly known as a billy. The billy can is a cooking pot, which is used for boiling water or cooking over a campfire. Moreover, Billi designed the world’s first under-counter boiling and chilled drinking water system.

Management Accountant Lindy McChesney-Tilley says the increased number of women at TG Lynes – particularly in senior roles – has helped to bring diversity and balance to the business.

Lindy started at TG Lynes as an accounts assistant in 2007 and has worked her way up in today’s five-strong accounting team.

Lindy was one of only four women in the business when she first joined – and she was the very first to work in the warehouse.

Reflecting on her career on International Women’s Day, Lindy said: “The company was much smaller at the time so during the busy summer months everyone in the office would chip in and help with picking and packing after 3pm until close.

“Warehouses are historically male-dominated environments and 15 years ago I was the first woman they had seen picking and packing.

“As it was something new, not everyone was comfortable with it. I was keen to help the team though and quickly reassured some of the sceptics that I could do the job to their high standards.

“Eventually I won them round and was accepted – and I’m really pleased I did that. In a small way I helped pave the way for other women to work in the warehouse.”

Lindy, who worked in fast food retail before joining TG Lynes, said she is pleased to see more women working at the business, from delivery drivers to members of the senior management team.

“It helps to bring balance to the business,” said Lindy, who lives in Harlow. “If you work with a group of people and they are all the same sex or race it can cause people to clash. You need diversity, and it’s good that people bring different views, too.

“I have seen big improvements at TG Lynes in my decade-and-a-half. The diversity of the workforce was starting to improve as I joined, but it really accelerated when we became part of the Grafton Group in 2015.

“When I left school there were obvious barriers to what women could achieve but it is changing.

“Sheryl Kara Sandberg (former chief operating officer of Meta Platforms) is a hero of mine because she is a champion of women in the workplace. She inspires me to want to progress in my own career.”

Lindy said she has enjoyed being part of TG Lynes’ growth, adding: “Being part of a large corporation has meant we have enjoyed a nicer working environment and a better structure.

“There are benefits for colleagues as well such as the wellness programme, which is well used.

“I am enjoying my job and hope to keep pushing on in the years to come.”
